CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — October is still nearly a month away, but that hasn't stopped local pumpkin patches and fields from opening where residents can pick the best pumpkin for a jack-o-lantern.

An annual trip to a Crystal Lake and Cary-area pumpkin patch is a fall pastime for many families. Fields often have free activities such as corn mazes, hayrides, and apple cider tastings.
