Island Lake Man Gets Prison For Drug-Induced Homicide

ST. CHARLES, IL — An Island Lake man has been sentenced to prison for providing the heroin and cocaine that caused the death of a 31-year-old St. Charles man.
Daniel Carmody, of Island Lake, was sentenced to six years in prison in Kane County Circuit Court after he pleaded guilty to a drug-induced homicide charge, prosecutors said last week.
In May 2021, Carmody delivered heroin and cocaine to Daniel Liewald of St. Charles. Liewald, 31, ingested the substances and later died.

His death was caused by fentanyl and cocaine intoxication, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.
Carmody must serve 75 percent of his sentence, authorities said. He has also been ordered to pay $5,418 in restitution to Liewald's family.
