Johnsburg Man Dies After Being Hit By Truck At McHenry Home Depot

The McHenry Police Department learned the 71-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries and passed away Monday, April 1.

MCHENRY, IL — An elderly man has died after he was hit by a pickup truck Sunday afternoon outside the Home Depot store in the 2400 block of N. Richmond Road, according to the McHenry Police Department. Police said officers responded to the store at 12:41 p.m. for a reported crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. According to police, 71-year-old William F. Dammeyer, of Johnsburg, was struck by a 2008 GMC Sierra HD pickup truck being driven near the store's entrance.

According to police, Dammeyer was transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital by the McHenry Township Fire Protection District due to injuries, before being flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The McHenry Police Department said they learned Dammeyer succumbed to his injuries and passed away Monday, April 1.

According to police, the driver of the truck, 19-year-old Christian J. Zientko, of McHenry, was cited for disobeying a stop sign.

Members of the McHenry Police Department's Major Crash Assistance Team, which includes members of McHenry, Spring Grove, Johnsburg, and Woodstock police departments, are continuing to investigate the incident.
