Johnsburg Man Sentenced In 2018 Heroin Overdose Death

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A Johnsburg man has been sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty in the overdose death of a man in McHenry he delivered drugs to, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's office. Patrick Kenneally, McHenry County State's Attorney, announced Wednesday that 44-year-old Timothy Colby was sentenced by McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge after pleading guilty to felony drug-induced homicide, the news release said.

Shawn Ackerman, of McHenry, died on July 10, 2018 of a heroin overdose, according to the state's attorney's office, adding that an investigation confirmed Colby was responsible for the delivery of the fatal heroin dose.

A second man, 46-year-old Christopher Birong, was sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty in April to a drug-induced homicide charge in connection with Ackerman's overdose death. Authorities said Birong provided the heroin that lead to Ackerman's death, according to the state's attorney's office.
