Jump In Overdose Deaths Reported In McHenry Co. In Recent Weeks

The McHenry County Substance Abuse Coalition says there's been several overdose deaths that occurred between July 24 and Aug. 4.

Authorities are warning the public after multiple overdose deaths occurred late last month and this month in McHenry County.

The McHenry County Substance Abuse Coalition said they have been notified of “multiple” overdose deaths that occurred between July 24 and August 4.

“The number of deaths was significant,” the McHenry County SAC said in a statement. They did not specify exactly how many have occurred.

The deaths have not been confirmed as opioid-related yet but the coalition said, “We are very aware that in McHenry County most overdose deaths occur because of opioids.”

Most opioid-related deaths involve fentanyl.

“We want all community members to remain safe and ensure that you have the safe supplies and resources you need,” the coalition’s statement said.

Laura Crain, the coalition’s program coordinator, said she could not release the specific number of overdose deaths but said it was under 10.

Overdose deaths have decreased so far in 2022 compared to 2021.

Crain said there have been 19 potential overdose deaths this year to date compared to 33 at this same time last year in McHenry County.
