Lake Villa Man Killed In McHenry County 3-Car Crash

An Ingleside man was seriously hurt in the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A Lake Villa man was killed and an Ingleside man was seriously injured after a three-car crash in unincorporated McHenry County Monday morning, according to a release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. At 7:51 a.m. Monday, members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Richmond Police Department, Illinois State Police, Richmond Township Fire and Rescue, Walworth crews, Hebron Township Fire and Rescue, and Wonder Lake Township Fire and Rescue personnel were called to the site of the crash on Route 173 at Keystone Road in unincorporated Richmond Township, according to the release. Route 173 and Keystone Road was closed for seven hours following the crash, authorities said.

The sheriff's office reported that according to the early investigation, a 2007 Terex Crane, driven by a 37-year-old Hebron man was traveling eastbound on Route 173 approaching Keystone Road, when a 2017 Nissan NV Cargo Van, driven by the 42-year-old Lake Villa man, was traveling northbound on Keystone Road approaching Route 173 and had a stop sign.

For unknown reasons, the Nissan failed to yield to traffic and pulled out onto Route 173, and the Terex Crane hit the Nissan, causing both vehicles to move into the westbound lane of traffic on Route 173, where they hit a 2017 Jeep Wrangler, according to the release. The driver of the Jeep Wrangler was a 19-year-old Richmond woman, who was waiting to turn south onto Keystone Road, the sheriff's office added.

The 28-year-old Ingleside man was a passenger in the Nissan, and was extricated and flown by
Flight for Life to Advocate Condell in Libertyville where he remains in serious condition, according to the release.

Authorities said the driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead on site, while the drivers of the Terex Crane and Jeep weren't taken to the hospital, the sheriff's office said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the crash, according to the release.
