Lightning Strike Sparks Fire At Cary Home: Fire Officials

The blaze broke out at a home in the 500 block of Surrey Ridge Drive in Cary Thursday night.

CARY, IL — A home in Cary was struck by lightning during a fast-moving storm that went through the area on Thursday night.

The Cary Fire Protection District was called to the 500 block of Surrey Ridge Drive in Cary at about 10:20 p.m. Thursday for a reported house fire and the possibility that the home had been struck by lightning, according to a news release from the fire protection district.

Firefighters arrived within minutes to find a heavy fire showing from the rear and side of a two-story home, according to the news release. Everyone inside the home at the time of the fire was able to safely get out before firefighters arrived, fire officials said.

The house is considered uninhabitable, according to the news release. Three of the people displaced during the fire will be receiving assistance from family and friends.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
