Local Artists and Photographers Receive Awards

Prizes awarded at The Land Conservancy of McHenry County's Art of the Land art show and fundraiser

On Nov. 9 and 10, The Land Conservancy of McHenry County (TLC) hosted its 10th annual Art of the Land art show and fundraiser in support of land preservation in McHenry County. From the 28 artists in the show, three received prizes. Kirsten Barry received Best in Show for her photograph, “Buckeyes”. Joan Ladendorf received an Honorable Mention for her digital photo composite, “Crop Circles”. Tom Cubr also received an Honorable Mention for his collage and gouache piece, “Terraforma Composition No. 51”.

TLC also hosted an amateur photography contest at the show in which several photographers received awards for photos taken at TLC properties and conservation easements. Doug Frey received first place for his photo of Boloria Meadows in Bull Valley. Brad Schmitt received second place for his photo taken at Harvard Gateway Park. Nancy Adami received third place for her photo of Boloria Meadows.

Three Honorable Mentions were also awarded at the show. They were given to Susanne Boettcher for her photo of Harvard Gateway Park; Nancy Adami for her photo of Boloria Meadows and Jennifer McAllister for her photo of Apple Creek Conservation Area in Woodstock.

Two amateur photographers received “People’s Choice” awards, voted on by Art of the Land attendees. Susan Creath received the “People’s Choice” award on Friday, and Nick Urbanik received the “People’s Choice” award on Saturday.

Over its 10 years, Art of the Land has raised thousands of dollars for land preservation in McHenry County.
