Man, 35, Charged In Hit-And-Run Crash That Injured 3 In Crystal Lake

One of the three people who were injured following the collision at Three Oaks Road and Route 31 was taken by helicopter to a hospital.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 35-year-old Elgin man faces an aggravated reckless driving charge for allegations he caused a hit-and-run crash thatleft three people with injuries, including one person who was seriously injured, Tuesday night in Crystal Lake.

The collision happened when a Mazda sports utility vehicle was headed west on Three Oaks Road and went through a stop light at Route 31 before colliding with two sedans that were headed south on Route 31 at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department. The Mazda continued through the intersection and hit a SUV head-on.

The drivers of the two sedans suffered minor injuries and were treated at local hospitals. The driver of the SUV suffered serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening and was taken by helicopter to a hospital, authorities said.

The driver of the Mazda, who has been identified as Deondrae Clements, 35, of Elgin, fled the scene and was later arrested by the East Dundee Police Department, according to a news release. Clements has been charged with failure to report an accident, aggravated reckless driving - causing great bodily harm and driving while license suspended/revoked for DUI.

He was transported to the McHenry County Jail.

The cause of this collision remains under investigation. Authorities with the Crystal Lake Police Department are asking anyone with information related to the collision to call 815-356-3620.
