Man Allegedly Battered Police Officer After Trespassing At Police Station In Woodstock

A 29-year-old man allegedly battered a police officer after refusing to leave a private parking lot at a police station in Woodstock on Thursday.

Cameron D. Griggs, 29, of the 100 block of North Hayward Street in Woodstock, was charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, a Class 2 felony, and criminal trespass to state land, a Class A misdemeanor.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Griggs trespassed on a private employee parking lot at the Woodstock Police Department on Thursday.

Griggs was informed by several uniformed police officers to leave the lot but he refused, the complaint said.

It is unclear why Griggs was in the parking lot.

Griggs then allegedly battered one of the officers by pushing him, the complaint said.

Officers arrested the man and transported him to the McHenry County Jail.

McHenry County Judge Tiffany Davis ordered Griggs held on a $40,000 bond, meaning he would need to post $4,000 cash to be released.

Assistant Public Defender Richard Behof filed a motion on Griggs’ behalf asking the court to reduce the man’s bond because he is unable to post it.

Behof argued Griggs is not a danger to the community or a flight risk.

A hearing on the motion is scheduled for Tuesday.
