Man Arrested, Charged In Oakwood Hills Home Invasion

The sheriff's office said the man reportedly battered the victim while she was holding a small child inside the home.

OAKWOOD HILLS, IL — The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said a man accused of invading an Oakwood Hills home Saturday, Feb. 9 was arrested Thursday by authorities in Elgin. The sheriff's office said 36-year-old David Derita has been arrested and charged with domestic battery, home invasion and other charges stemming from an incident at a home in the 10 block of Hillcrest Road.

The sheriff's office said deputies responded to the home around 9:20 a.m. Saturday to assist the Oakwood Hills Police Department with a domestic battery that had just occurred. Upon arrival deputies saw force was used to get through the front door and into the home, where the sheriff's office said they found the victim and two small children.

According to the sheriff's office, an investigation led to the discovery that Derita had come to the home for unknown reasons, got inside, and forced his way into a room where the victim was hiding while trying to call 911.

The sheriff's office said David then reportedly battered the victim while she was holding a small child, before he grabbed her phone and left the home.

According to authorities, arrest warrants were obtained for home invasion, criminal damage to property, domestic battery, and interfering with the reporting of a domestic, which Derita is being charged with.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Apprehension Unit, the U.S. Marshalls Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, Kane County Sheriff’s Office, and Elgin Police Department worked together to apprehend Derita Thursday.
