Man Gets 14 Years In Prison For Shooting Into Home

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for firing a bullet through the window of a Crystal Lake home in July 2022.
Joel B. Kattner, 19, was sentenced to seven years in prison on a possession of a stolen firearm charge and an additional seven years on a use of a stolen firearm in the commission of an offense charges in McHenry County Court, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office. Kattner pleaded guilty to both charges.
The charges stem from a July 10, 2022, incident where Crystal Lake Police officers responded to the 900 block of Coventry Lane for a report of a bullet fired through a resident's bedroom window, according to a news release.

The officers spoke with the victim, who identified Kattner as the shooter, according to authorities. Following an extensive investigation, authorities executed a search warrant at Kattner's home and found the gun that had been used.
