Man Rescued From River With Help Of Firefighters, Good Samaritan In Cary

A good Samaritan used his boat to bring rescuers to a man who was in distress in a river in Cary Saturday evening, fire officials said.

The Cary Fire Protection District responded at 7:41 p.m. Saturday to Rawson Bridge Road and Beachway Street in Cary for a report of a water rescue.

Firefighters were notified of a male subject who was reportedly unconscious in the river, according to Cary Fire Protection District Spokesperson Alex Vucha.

The man reportedly jumped from a boat into a shallow part of water and struck the river bottom.

The first arriving crews reported the boat and a male patient were still in the river just south of the bridge.

A resident used his pontoon boat to quickly transport crews from the Cary Fire Protection District and Wauconda Fire District to the patient, Vucha said.

The man was conscious when rescuers made contact with him.

The patient was transported back to shore a few minutes later where paramedics were awaiting him.

He was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with minor injuries, Vucha added.
