Man Sentenced To 75 Years For 2017 McHenry Murder, Home Invasion

Adam Morris was sentenced on charges of first degree murder, burglary, armed robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State's Attorney, announced Tuesday that 46-year-old Adam C. Morris of McCullom Lake was sentenced to 75 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) after a jury previously found him guilty of two counts of first degree murder, burglary, armed robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, according to the state's attorney's office. A release from the state's attorney's office said Morris and another were armed with firearms when they burglarized the McHenry home of Donald Jouravleff on May 27, 2017. Jouravleff was shot and killed, and his wife was robbed at gunpoint during the unlawful entry, according to a release.

Last month, co-defendant Byron Howard, 37, of Wonder Lake, was found guilty of several charges including three counts of first degree murder in the home invasion and murder. According to a release from McHenry County State's Attorney's Office, Howard was also found guilty of three counts of home invasion, armed robbery, burglary, armed habitual criminal and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. He will be sentenced on May 24, the state's attorney's office said.

According to the state's attorney's office, Morris will serve 60 actual years in the IDOC, under Truth in Sentencing guidelines.

prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorneys Randi Freese, Michael Combs and Victor Escarcida.
