McHenry Co. Man Dies Days After Being Shot In Chicago

The man was shot in the back during an altercation with an unknown person on Chicago's West Side, police said.

A Harvard man died on Monday days after he was shot in the back during an altercation with an unknown person on Chicago’s West Side, police and the medical examiner’s office said.

The Chicago Police Department said they responded around 3:45 p.m. last Wednesday to the 3800 block of West Fillmore Avenue in Chicago for a shooting. Officers found a male victim with a gunshot wound to his back.

Paramedics transported him to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. Officers learned the man had been involved in some type of verbal altercation with an unknown offender, police said.

The offender pulled out a gun and fired shots at the victim, with at least one shot striking him.

Chicago police detectives are investigating the case and it is not believed anyone is in custody yet.

The Cook Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Maurice Timberlake, 23, of Harvard.

The medical examiner’s office said Timberlake was pronounced dead in the hospital around 4:30 a.m. Monday, five days following the shooting.

The medical examiner’s office has ruled Timberlake’s death a homicide.
