Staffing Shortages Forces Temporary Closure Of Animal Control Center

The McHenry County Animal Control’s adoption center is closed until further notice after officials said Wednesday that they are experiencing a staffing shortage.

“Businesses around the country are experiencing staffing issues and things are no different here at MCAC,” McHenry County Animal Control (MCAC) said in a statement on social media.

The department said they are transferring animals out to rescue agencies for adoption while the center is closed.

“It takes a lot of people doing a lot of hard work to make our shelter run, and with our current staff shortage, we decided it was best to temporarily close our Adoption Center and transfer animals out to rescues for adoption,” the department said.

Staff members will continue to care for animals at the shelter and will continue to take in stray animals.

Stray animals will be held during the 10-day stray hold and then they will be transferred to rescues where they can be adopted.

Finders who can hold onto found animals for the duration of the 10-day stray hold are encouraged to do so after reporting the found animal to MCAC. “We will accept relinquishments as we are able.”

McHenry County animal control officers will continue to respond to calls as usual.

The adoption center will reopen once more staff members are hired, MCAC said.
