McHenry County Gives Up on Easement Fight With Nunda Township
Resident concerned about flooding due to easement work says he's disappointed.

McHenry County has dropped its year-long legal fight with the Nunda Township Highway Department, and that disappoints Douglas Mann. At issue are concerns about easement work along Running Iron Drive that resulted in flooding last summer on Garden Lane, according to Mann.
At the time the work was completed, county ordinances required permits for any project that would affect more than 20 acres. The work in question affected 45 acres. A new ordinance changed the rules and upped the limit to 100 acres, and so the county dropped its effort to hold the township accountable for violating the earlier rules. The highway department spent $11,000 on the fight.
“The county was really our only avenue,” said Mann, of Crystal Lake. “Now that they have pretty much given free rein to the highway commissioner, we’re stuck with what we got I guess.”
