The annual contest recognizes the most outstanding engineering projects in the state, and celebrates the amazing work of member agencies that bring credit to the engineering profession. Entries are judged on the basis of engineering excellence, the degree to which the client’s needs are met, and the benefits to the public welfare and private practice of engineering.

“This award recognizes all the people that were involved with this award-winning project from planning, preliminary engineering, contract plan preparation, land acquisition, construction, construction engineering, and our maintenance team,” Korpalski said. “A special thanks to the McHenry County Division of Transportation team, both past and present, in delivering the largest construction project done by McHenry County.”

Besides the McHenry County Division of Transportation, the award also recognized design firm TranSystems and construction firms Baxter & Woodman and Civiltech.

The project, completed August 2021, widened Randall Road between Lake in the Hills and Algonquin, improved flow at the Randall and Algonquin Road intersection, added two new signalized intersections, and added pedestrian and bicycle amenities including a pedestrian underpass and paved walkways.
