McHenry HS Student Charged After Stating Threats: Police

Police said a McHenry High School - West Campus student stated shooting-related comments to a classmate.

MCHENRY, IL — The McHenry Police Department investigated inappropriate, shooting-related comments Tuesday made by a student at McHenry Community High School's West Campus. Police said the high school student stated the comments to a classmate, and once the school's administration became aware of this, the student was brought to the school's office. The School Resource Officer, who police said is a McHenry Police Officer, was immediately notified, and a joint investigation between the McHenry Police Department and McHenry Community High School District 156 was conducted.

According to police, the student at the center of the investigation was removed from the building, taken into custody and transported to the McHenry Police Department. The McHenry Police Department's Investigations Division interviewed the student, their parents and the school's administration, ultimately charging the 15-year-old male with felony disorderly conduct and taking him to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center, police reported.

According to police, the student didn't have any weapons nor have access to any, and there was no immediate threat those at McHenry High School's West Campus or to the community.

Police said students and parents are urged to inform police and the school about alarming behavior that has potential to put the community at risk. Police added they also commend the actions of individuals who quickly come forward with this type of information, as these cases are taken very seriously by our school districts and department.
