Missing Teen May Have Gun; Schools on Lockdown

Crystal Lake Police said the area schools went on lockdown Monday because Adrian Salazar is "despondent" and possibly armed.

Missing Crystal Lake teen Adrian Salazar left his home March 1 in what police are calling a despondent state of mind.

“He had indicated through contacts that he had through social media that he was despondent,” Crystal Lake Police Commander Dan Dziewio said.

A gun is also missing from the Salazar home, so police alerted the school Salazar attends - Crystal Lake Central High School - to the situation.

Crystal Lake Community High School District 155 and Crystal Lake Grade School District 47 were on soft lockdown Monday. WGN is reporting that Prairie Grove District 46 was also on lockdown.

“The reason they are on soft lockdown is because Adrian Salazar is a student,” Dziewio said. “They decided to go on soft lockdown because of it.”

Soft lockdown means that students can move about between classes, but no one can enter or exit the building.

Salazar’s Facebook page is not public and the last update that is visible is from August 2014.

Salazar is 5’6” and 125 pounds. Schools have released students for the day.
