Woman Stomped, Strangled By Stranger While Walking Dog: Officials

MCHENRY, IL — More details have been released regarding the significant injuries sustained by a 59-year-old woman attacked while walking her dog in Petersen Park over the weekend as well as information regarding the Good Samaritan who came to her aid.

Raymond P. Link, 47, has been ordered detained following the attack and his initial court appearance Monday in McHenry County Circuit Court on an attempted first-degree murder charge.

Link, of West Allis, Wisconsin, also faces aggravated battery with great bodily harm, aggravated battery by strangulation and aggravated battery in a public place in connection with the weekend attack in McHenry.

Link — in what police say was an unprovoked attack at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday — stomped, kicked and hit the 59-year-old woman in the area of her head and neck while she walked her dog at Peterson Park, according to court documents provided to Patch.

He placed both knees on her head and neck with his fully body weight and tried to strangle her with his forearm and/or hands while she lay unconscious and unresponsive on the ground, according to court documents.

The attack results in the woman suffering avulsions to her left ear, a ruptured globe of her left eye, several cuts and an "extensive open fracture of facials bones," according to court documents.

A 37-year-old man, who did not know the woman or Link, stepped in to help, authorities said.

Link proceeded to punch the Good Samaritan with a closed fist more than 12 times in the chest and arm, according to court documents. He also is accused of ordering his dog to attack the man.

The man suffered a broken clavicle, bruising, redness and a dog bite.

The woman was taken to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry for treatment of serious injuries to her face and multiple dog bites. She has since been flown to Condell Medical Center for further treatment

The 37-year-old man injured during the attack was taken to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry.

An investigation into the attack is ongoing.
