Motorcyclist Flown To Hospital Following Crash Near McHenry

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 61-year-old was flown to the hospital and cited after he crashed his motorcycle while trying to pass another vehicle near McHenry Saturday evening, police said.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7:55 p.m. Saturday to the area of Chapel Hill Road and North River Road in unincorporated McHenry.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Byrnes said deputies received a call for a single-vehicle motorcycle crash at the intersection. Deputies arrived and found a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle that had crashed.

An investigation showed the Harley Davidson was traveling southbound on Chapel Hill Road approaching North River Road, Byrnes said.

The motorcycle passed another southbound vehicle and lost control while negotiating a curve, Byrnes said.

After losing control, the motorcycle crashed off to the west side of the road.

The driver, a 61-year-old Barrington man, was transported by medical helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The man was the sole rider on the motorcycle. His condition was not available but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Byrnes said the 61-year-old was cited for improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
