Motorcyclist's Leg Severed In Lake County Collision: Police

The collision happened at about 1:10 p.m. on Friday on Route 173 near Route 41 when a car collided with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The left leg of a motorcyclist was severed during a serious collision on Friday in Wadsworth, police said.

The collision happened at about 1:10 p.m. on Friday on Route 173 near Route 41 when a car collided with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which was driven y a 68-year-old Wadsworth man.

The motorcycle was headed west on Route 173 when a Nissan Rogue, which was eastbound on 173, turned left into the Van Patton Woods Forest Preserve directly in front of the motorcycle, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

The motorcycle hit the side of the Nissan and the motorcyclist was thrown from the vehicle. Police said his "left leg was severed during the impact."

The motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The driver of the Nissan, a 38-year-old woman from Muskego, Wisconsin, was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
