Naperville Men ID'd As Those Found Dead In Water Near Johnsburg

Robert Clow, 31, and Theodor Wachter, 89, were found near Coon Island after the men were reported missing. Toxicology results are pending.

JOHNSBURG, IL —Two men who were found dead in open water near Johnsburg over the weekend have been identified as two Naperville men, the McHenry County Coroner announced on Tuesday.

The men were identified as Robert Clow, 31, and Theodor Wachter, 89, both of whom were found in the water Sunday afternoon after rescue crews were called to Pistakee Lake around 3 p.m.

Will County officials notified local authorities around 6 a.m. Sunday after the families of the men reported them missing. The men were last believed to be at Oak Park Lounge in Johnsburg, according to a news release.

Rescue workers and other first responders started combing the shoreline of the lake Sunday afternoon, and the bodies of the two men were found near Coon Island, authorities said Sunday.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said that foul play is not suspected in the men’s deaths, and officials said they had been ice fishing and that fishing equipment had been found by authorities.

Autopsies were performed on Tuesday and the toxicology results are pending, according to McHenry County Coroner Dr. Michael Rein. The coroner’s office is continuing to work with local authorities as the men’s deaths remain under investigation.
