No Injuries After Dog Alerts Residents To Garage Fire In Woodstock

A dog alerted homeowners to a fire that started in the garage of a residence in Woodstock, allowing the residents to escape safely, fire officials said.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded around 2:14 a.m. Monday to the 1500 block of Ginny Lane in Woodstock for a report of a structure fire. Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said firefighters arrived on the scene within four minutes of the call.

They found light smoke showing from the garage door.

Vucha said crews quickly made entry into the garage and found a fire before extinguishing it within 10 minutes.

The residence had working smoke detectors but the homeowners were alerted to the smoke by one of their dogs, Vucha said. Both residents and their pets escaped the home unharmed.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported, Vucha said.

The fire damage was contained to the garage and the residence remained habitable.

The cause remains under investigation by the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District but is not believed to be suspicious in nature.
