NWS Warns Of ‘Destructive Winds,' Damaging Hail From Severe Thunderstorms In Northern Illinois

The National Weather Service is warning about severe thunderstorms that could bring “destructive winds” over 75 mph and damaging hail in northern Illinois Monday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a hazardous weather outlook Monday morning.

The outlook is in effect for Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Lake, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, LaSalle, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, Livingston, Iroquois, Ford, Cook and Will counties.

The first potential round will likely be in a developing phase while crossing northern Illinois very late morning into early afternoon, the NWS said.

A second potential round will surge southeast from Wisconsin and may clip far northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana late afternoon into the early evening.

Significant damaging winds will be the main threat with large hail and a “brief tornado” possible with both rounds, the NWS said.

Winds could reach more than 75 mph and could be capable of damaging structures and trees.

Hail capable of denting cars and siding is possible.

The first round is expected between 12-3 p.m. Monday and the second round is expected from 5-8 p.m., the NWS said.
