Police Arrest Student, Identify Others Who Made Threats Towards 4 Woodstock Schools

Police say they have conducted several assessments on students who allegedly made threats made against four different schools in Woodstock. One student has been arrested.

The Woodstock Police Department said in an update Thursday morning that they continue to work with school administration to investigate the recent threats made to Woodstock Community Unit School District 200 schools.

Several threat assessments have been conducted on students who were identified as having made or were perceived to have made threats towards District 200 schools.

Threats made to Creekside Middle School and Northwood Middle School in Woodstock have been deemed not credible, police said.

The threat towards Creekside Middle School was a “social media rumor” stemming from an incident that occurred on Monday, police said.

The student in question regarding the threat is suspended and not allowed on school property.

“We’re taking steps to ensure he has no access to firearms, etc, prior to his return. We’ll be working with D200 officials on other steps,” police said.

In a separate incident, police said they arrested a Woodstock North High School student after a social media threat was made against Woodstock North High School.

A student received a message from an unknown person on Snapchat asking if they go to Woodstock North High School.

The person then said, “When I shoot I don’t miss,” according to a screenshot obtained by Lake and McHenry County Scanner.

Woodstock police said Thursday morning that their investigation into a threat that was written on campus at Woodstock High School continues to progress.

Woodstock High School Principal Art Vallicelli notified parents Tuesday afternoon of the threat, which was written in a bathroom at the school.

A photo was taken of the threatening message and posted on social media.

“Ima shoot up the [expletive] school tomorrow,” the threat said, according to a photo obtained by Lake and McHenry County Scanner.

Extra police presence at the four schools will continue, officials said Thursday. Both Woodstock High School and Woodstock North High School have full-time school resource officers.

“You should not be worried about sending your children to school. Many of our officers have students who attend D200 schools. We take threats to our schools personal, just as you do. We will always do everything within our legal authority to catch those responsible for making these threats and holding them accountable,” police officials said.
