Robert Wagner, Former Crystal Lake Mayor, Dies
Wagner, who served as Mayor of Crystal Lake from 1995 to 1999, passed away Friday, Dec. 13.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Robert "Bob" Wagner, former Mayor of Crystal Lake, died Friday at the age of 64 while surrounded by his family after a sudden heart attack three days earlier, according to his obituary. Wagner served as Mayor of Crystal Lake from 1995 to 1999, his obituary states, and was married to Nancy Louko, with whom he had four children with.
Wagner was born on Dec. 31, 1954 in Evergreen Park, and moved to Westchester, where he went to St. Joseph's High School before attending and graduating Cum Laude from Marquette University in 1976. The former mayor received his Juris Doctor from DePaul University’s School of Law in 1980, and six years later married Louko.
Wagner began his law practice in Chicago before moving to Crystal Lake, and according to his obituary, "prided himself on representing those who needed help most, while always 'fighting for the little guy.'" Wagner was also a "dedicated public servant" and in addition to his time as mayor, he served as President of the McHenry County Historical Society up until his death, Grafton Township Trustee (2013-17), Crystal Lake Park District Commissioner (1991-95), Grafton Township Precinct Committeeman (1989-95), and Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Civil Jury Instructions (1987-94), according to his obituary.

Visitation for Wagner will be held Wednesday, Dec. 18 from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. in Crystal Lake. A second visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 19 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 410 N. 1st St. in Cary. Private burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the McHenry County Historical Society, 6422 Main St. in Union.
