Stepped Up Security Measures In Place At Crystal Lake Park District Board Meeting

A metal detector screening will be required for those stoping out to Monday's board meeting.

The "current climate" at recent board meetings as well as "anger expressed towards the board" lead to the stepped up security, Jason Herbster, executive director for the Crystal Lake Park District, told Patch.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Attendees who stop out to the Crystal Lake Park District Board meeting Monday night will need to take part in a metal detector screening, according to park district board officials.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Crystal Lake's Main Beach, 300 Lake Shore Drive, according to the meeting agenda. Safety measures will be in place during the meeting.

"For the safety of all participants, entry to the upcoming Crystal Lake Park District Board Meeting (Mon, Sep 22, 2025) will take place through a metal detector screening. Those planning to attend are encouraged to arrive early to allow enough time to complete the screening process prior to the start of the meeting," according to a note on the park district board website. "If possible, avoid bringing bags as they will be subject to search. Clear bags are recommended."
