On Saturday, a long-term care resident of a facility in McHenry County tested positive for COVID-19, according to Lindsey Salvatelli, the Community Information Coordinator for the McHenry County Department of Health.

The resident is currently in isolation at a hospital and it was the first long-term care facility case reported in McHenry County. Officials did not release the name of the facility.

“Those who live in these facilities are at greater risk for poorer outcomes based on their age and underlying health conditions,” MCDH Public Health Administrator Melissa Adamson said.

“We’ve been in constant communication with long-term care facilities throughout McHenry County in an effort to provide guidance and address their needs,” Adamson said.

Public Health Nursing Director Susan Karras said that the facility reported appropriately to the health department and both are working together to reduce the spread.

Health officials are assisting long-term care facilities with personal protection equipment and prioritizing supplies to facilities who need it the most, Karras said.

On Tuesday, health officials confirmed a 70-year-old Crystal Lake man had died after testing positive for COVID-19. He was McHenry County’s first coronavirus-related death.
