Sheriff's Office Investigating Crash Involving McHenry County Men

Neither rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the sheriff's office said, adding that alcohol is considered to be a factor.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — Two McHenry County men are in the hospital after a Sunday motorcycle crash in unincorporated Harvard, according to a release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. As of Tuesday morning, the release said a 30-year-old Harvard man is in critical condition and the other man, a 26-year-old from Wonder Lake, sustained serious injuries in the crash at the intersection of Lawrence Road and Ramer Road. The sheriff's office said deputies, Flight for Life and Harvard Township Fire and Rescue crews were among the several personnel who responded to the crash site at 8:45 p.m. Saturday.

According to the release, early investigation shows that a 2014 Yamaha FZ-09 was headed southbound on Lawrence Road, approaching Ramer Road, when for unknown reasons the motorcycle failed to maneuver around a curve in the road and hit a guardrail.

Neither rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, the sheriff's office said, adding that alcohol is considered to be a factor in this crash. According to the release, the driver of the motorcycle (the 30-year-old) is being investigated by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Major Crash Investigations Unit.

The riders were both flown by helicopter to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford, according to the release.
