Shirley M. Mentch, 92, of Cary

Shirley M. Mentch, age 92, of Cary passed away July 9, 2013, in Phoenix, Ariz.

She was born July 12, 1920, in Chicago, the daughter of John and Sophie Kubiek.

She graduated from Lakeview High School in Chicago and the Art Institute of Chicago. 

Shirley came to live in Cary during the depression and settled on the Fox River.  

She married Elburn F. Mentch on May 3, 1941. He was the great, great grandson of William D. Cary, founder of Cary.  

She was a member of the Cary United Methodist Church, Cary-Grove Historical Society, Cary Country Club, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Mayflower Chapter #555 Order of Eastern Star. 

She was one of the driving forces behind the building of Good Shepherd Hospital.

She is survived by two daughters: Lesley Ann (Dr. William L.) Baran and Deborah Leah Embrey; five grandchildren, John E. (Lisa) Yazel, Christina (Kenneth) Ayers, Amanda (Jason) McMahon, Devin T. Embrey and William C. Baran; seven great grandchildren, Sean and Jessica Blackmon, Robert and Casey Bracken, Faith Embrey, Madison Yazel and Lacey Baran.

Visitation will be at the Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, 403 Silver Lake Rd., Cary, from 3 until 8 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013.

A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013 at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Windridge Memorial Park.
