Slick Roadways Lead To Crashes In McHenry County

The collisions happened near Harvard and Cary Thursday night.

MCHENRY, IL — Crashes were reported throughout McHenry County during a snowstorm Thursday night.

Both the Cary and Harvard fire protection districts responded to collisions that happened during the snowy weather, which left area roadways slippery, said Alex Vucha, public information officer for the Cary and Harvard fire protection districts.

The first incident was reported at about 7:30 p.m. in the 18700 block of Route 14 near Harvard for a single-vehicle rollover crash. The driver was able to free herself before paramedics arrived, and did not require transportation to the hospital.

A second collision was reported at about 8:30 p.m. when two vehicle collided near Route 14 and Nimco Drive. One driver, a man, was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington for treatment of minor injuries.

Four people inside the second vehicle, two adults and two children, were evaluated at the scene but were not injured.

Westbound 14 was closed for 45 minutes following the collision.

Police said roadways remained slick late Thursday night in areas and in particular in the western part of the county. Snow is expected to continue this morning and untreated roadways and surfaces will likely become snow-covered and slick, according to the National Weather Service.
