Spring Snowstorm: Snowfall Totals, Road Conditions In McHenry Co.

More snow is on its ways Friday as a winter storm pummels the Midwest and northern Illinois.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — Spring has sprung but Mother Nature has not gotten the message.

A winter snowstorm that has pummeled portions of the Midwest could bring more than six inches of snow to McHenry County Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Snow has been steadily falling Friday morning and is expected to continue through 4 p.m. for portions of northern Illinois, including Winnebago, Boone and McHenry counties.

As of 9 a.m., several inches of snow had already fallen across northern Illinois. According to the National Weather Service, the most snow had fallen in Loves Park: 4.3 inches. Here is a look at other snowfall totals:

  • Bull Valley: 4 inches
  • Belvidere: 4 inches
  • Forreston: 3.8 inches
  • Lake Villa: 2.8 inches

The snow is heavy and wet, according to weather officials. Heavy wet snow can sometimes lead to power outages but no major outages have been reported as of 11 a.m., according to the ComEd power outage map.

Drivers should plan on dangerous road conditions while driving in McHenry County Friday, which is currently under a winter storm warning. They should pack an extra flashlight, food and water in their vehicle in case of an emergency, weather officials said.

As for roadways, hazardous road conditions are being reported across McHenry County Friday morning, according to a post on the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Facebook page. The majority of highways and roadways in the county were mostly coveted with ice or snow as of 11 a.m., according to the Illinois Department of Transportation winter road conditions website.
