Suitcase Left Outside Government Center Leads To Evacuation

The Kane County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad has inspected the suitcase and deemed it safe.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A woman left a "suspicious suitcase" outside the McHenry County Government Center Wednesday, leading to the evacuation of the building and an investigation by a local bomb squad.

The suitcase was found at the east public entrance to the government center, address, at about 1:30 p.m., according to authorities.

Security video footage shows a female driving a white GMC truck removed the suitcase from her track and placed it at the east entrance. The immediate area was secured, and the building was evacuated.

The Kane County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad was called to assist with the suspicious suitcase and after inspecting the suitcase, determined that it did not pose any threat, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

The government center was evacuated for about two hours, and the correctional facility was also placed on lockdown due to the incident.
