Tornado Warning Issued For Kane, McHenry Counties

​ A tornado warning is in effect for southwestern McHenry, northwestern Kane and central Kane counties through 9:15 p.m. Monday.

KANE AND MCHENRY COUNTIES, IL — A tornado warning is in effect for southwestern McHenry and northwestern Kane counties through 9:15 p.m. Monday.

The warning is also in effect for central Kane County, according to the National Weather Service.

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Genoa at 8:40 p.m., moving east at 25 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Locations in the storm's pathway include Huntley, Pingree Grove, Hampshire and Gilberts.

A severe thunderstorm located over Maple Park and moving east at 35 mph could also produce tornado action, weather officials said.

The storm could be near Elburn, Maple Park and Lily Lake around 8:45 p.m. and St. Charles and Geneva around 8:55 p.m.

Tree damage is likely and damage to roofs, window and vehicles is possible. Residents are encouraged to move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and avoid windows.
