New, as of Thursday, Oct. 17th! The Cary Village Board on Tuesday voted to extend trick-or-treat hours. The new hours for Cary kids to trick-or-treat are from 3 to 8 p.m. (original time was 4 to 7 p.m.), according to the Cary Police Department.

The public should also follow these Halloween Safety Tips:
- Drivers, pay particular attention when driving through residential areas being constantly ready for a darting young ghost.
- Drivers, don't use cell phones while driving on Halloween night. Driver distraction has caused an increase in traffic crashes and there will be many young children out that night.
- The obvious checking of candy before your children eat is a must.
- Costumes should be flame retardant. Try making/ buying costumes with some type of reflective tape. Add some to reflective tape to the costume if necessary.
- Parents, if you are not accompanying your child, be sure you know your children's intended Halloween trick-or-treating route.
- While not a pleasant thing to think of, Halloween is a night child predators could look for victims. Parents can access the Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registration website and enter your address. The map will show you the addresses of all registered sex offenders within the distance of your home.
