MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — All inbound and outbound trains on the Union Pacific Northwest Metra line have been halted from Jefferson Park to Cary due to the weather, Metra officials said Monday evening.

High wind warnings from incoming storms lead Metra officials to make the decision to stop the trains, according to Metra. It is unclear at this point how long the trains will be stopped.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect Monday for the Chicago area. In McHenry County, rain showers and thunderstorms are likely and some of the storms could be severe, according to the National Weather Service.

Torrential rainfall could lead to flash flooding, according to weather officials. Downpours could lead to ponding of water on roadways, with isolated areas seeing roadway flooding, basement flooding and flooding of creeks and streams.
