Weather Update: McHenry Co. Could Get 7 to 11 Inches Of Snow
McHenry, Kane and Lake counties are now under a winter storm warning.
MCHENRY AND LAKE COUNTIES, IL — A winter storm warning has been issued for Lake and McHenry counties, which will take effect at 8 p.m. Monday and continue through Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.
Kane County is also under a winter storm warning. A winter weather advisory has been issued for other Chicago-area counties, including Cook, DuPage and Will counties.
The snowfall is expected to start Monday evening. The snowstorm is expected to bring heavy, wet snow and wind gusts as high as 35 mph. In McHenry County, between 7 and 11 inches of snow is possible.

Other counties listed under the warning, including Kane and Lake counties, could see between 5 and 8 inches of snowfall, according to the National Weather Service. Snowfall rates of more than one inch per hour or possible at times late Tuesday morning and into Tuesday evening, and visibility could be reduced to under a half-mile at times.
"Travel will be very difficult and dangerous at times," according to the National Weather Service. "The hazardous conditions will impact both the morning and evening commutes on Tuesday."

As of Monday afternoon, one local high school, Marian Central Catholic School in Woodstock, had announced it would close Tuesday. More updates on closings will be posted here.
