Woman Sentenced For Fraudulently Withdrawing Cash From Bank Accounts
The woman stole $4,000 from the account of a Crystal Lake resident and was linked to similar offenses in the Chicago area.
MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A woman who fraudulently withdrew cash from bank accounts in McHenry, Cook and Will counties has been sentenced to two years in prison, authorities said.
Cassandra L. Bass, of Demotte, Indiana, pleaded guilty to a charge of theft during a hearing on Tuesday in McHenry County Circuit Court, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.
The Crystal Lake Police Department launched an investigation into Bass after she withdrew $4,000 from a bank on June 1, 2023, according to a news release. The account owner told police they had not given Bass permission to access the account.

Police shared surveillance video from the incident with other police departments, and Bass was linked to similar offenses in Cook and Will County, according to a news release.
It's unclear how Bass got the banking information and was able to withdraw the money, authorities said.
