The Harvard woman is accused of running her pick-up truck into an 11-year-old girl who was crossing the street in McHenry Friday.
MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A Harvard woman faces charges for allegations she hit an 11-year-old McHenry girl who was riding her bike with her pick-up truck Friday afternoon in McHenry.
Authorities determined the girl activated the flashing pedestrian crossing light before riding across the intersection of Curran Road and Dartmoor Drive in Crystal Lake at about 4:40 p.m. Friday. The young bicyclist was then hit by a 2023 Ford F-150, which had been headed south on Curran Road, according to a news release from the McHenry Police Department.
The truck continued driving south on Curran Road and was found a short time later at Bull Valley and Crystal Lake roads, according to police.

Patricia A. Bredhorst, the driver of the pick-up truck accused of leaving the scene, now faces charges of failure to give aid or information, failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and no valid registration, according to the news release.
The girl, who was identified as Moira Arjona by her mother, was taken to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry and then flown to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment of her injuries, the Northwest Herald is reporting. She sustained a concussion, a skull fracture and initially needed a chest tube to help her breathe, but that tube was removed Sunday.

Minutes before the crash, Moira's mother, Amanda Arjona, had spotted her daughter on her bike while driving through town. She stopped and offered to give her a ride home, but her daughter told her she would continue on her bike since she didn't want to have to leave it behind, according to the article. Her mother then reminded Moira to press the button for the crosswalk, and Moira told her, "Mom, I always do."
