Wonder Lake Man Pronounced Dead After Single-Vehicle Wauconda Crash

A 62-year-old Wonder Lake man died after a Thursday car accident in which he struck a tree.

Lake County Sheriff's deputies responded Thursday night to a single-vehicle accident in Wauconda that left one man dead.

They were called around 5:15 p.m. to the scene of the crash near Darrell Road, south of Case Road, according to a news release. Authorities say that a 62-year-old Wonder Lake man was driving a 2000 Buick Regal northbound on Darrell Road when he lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway.

He drove into the ditch and then struck a tree head-on. The man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"Crash investigators responded to the scene and continue to investigate if drugs, alcohol, and/or speed were
a factor in the crash," the release says.

The accident remained under investigation Friday by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
