Woodstock Man Dies After Being Ejected From Car During Crash

Two people from Wheaton were seriously hurt in the crash, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's office.

WOODSTOCK, IL — One person is dead and two more are seriously hurt after a Sunday morning car crash in unincorporated Woodstock. The McHenry County Sheriff's office, Woodstock Police Department, Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and Wonder Lake Fire/Rescue responded to the crash at 2:03 a.m. in the 11100 block of Charles Road, where a 2019 Toyota Camry crashed into a utility pole and tree on Charles Road, west of Queen Anne Road, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

A 34-year-old Woodstock man was thrown from the vehicle and was taken in an ambulance to Northwestern Hospital in Woodstock, before being flown by Flight For Life helicopter to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford where he was later pronounced dead, according to the sheriff's office.

The investigation at the crash site determined the Toyota, driven by 32-year-old Shawn Brautigam, from Wheaton, was headed westbound on Charles Road, and for unknown reasons left the road northbound and hit the pole, tree and rolled onto its side, according to the news release.

Brautigam was flown by Flight For Life helicopter to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville where he remains in critical condition, the sheriff's office said.

Another passenger, 44-year-old Wheaton woman, was also flown by Flight For Life helicopter to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville where she remains in serious condition, the sheriff's office added.

Only Brautigam was wearing a seat belt when airbags deployed, and was arrested for accusations he was driving under the influence of alcohol, the release said. He faces DUI charges, and was issued a Notice to Appear during court date scheduled for Dec. 12, the sheriff's office said.
