2 Darien-Area Districts' Class Sizes Bigger Than Most

One local district, though, is considerably under the statewide average.

DARIEN, IL – Two Darien-area elementary school districts' average class sizes were bigger than the statewide average, according to state statistics.

The average sizes for Cass District 63 and Center Cass District 66 were 23 and 22, respectively, exceeding the state's 21, according to the Illinois Report Card website.

Meanwhile, Darien District 61 was at 17. It has seen a reduction over the years. From 2014 to 2019, District 61's average class size was either 24 or 25, considerably above statewide averages.

According to the Illinois Report Card, research shows that students in lower grades demonstrate the potential for higher achievement scores when they are enrolled in smaller classes.
