DARIEN, IL — All four Darien aldermen whose seats are up in the April 6 election are seeking new terms. Monday was the first day to file campaign paperwork.

Ward 1's Ted Schauer, Ward 3's Joe Kenny and Ward 5's Mary Sullivan are running unopposed. Ward 7's Tom Belczak faces Norbert Tamos.

Belczak is an attorney, while Tamos is a code enforcement officer for Lombard. Ward 7 is bound by 67th Street, Richmond Avenue, Plainfield Road and Cass Avenue.

In an interview, Tamos, a retired Cicero police sergeant, said he often walks through Darien Community Park, which is near his house. He said residents in the park tell him about their concerns.

"They're worried that the City Council is going to raise taxes. They also want a good strong police department," said Tamos, who has lived in Darien since 1986. "These are the reasons why I'm running."
