Darien Cops Pursue Stolen Car's Driver, Who Crashes: Police

A 22-year-old man is considered a person of interest; police believe others may have fled the scene.

DARIEN, IL — A 22-year-old man is being questioned by Darien police after a car reported as stolen crashed into another vehicle Wednesday morning.

According to a news release on the city’s Facebook page, a car was heading east about 5 a.m. on 75th Street in Naperville when it passed a license plate reader. That’s when police found out the car was reported stolen in Lincolnshire.

A Darien officer saw the car speeding on 75th Street at Lemont Road. So he notified an officer ahead to deploy spike strips to stop the car. The vehicle continued and crashed into an occupied car, police said. The person in the other vehicle refused medical treatment.

According to police, the incident is still under investigation, with the 22-year-old man being considered a person of interest. Police said they believe there may have been more people in the stolen car that fled the scene.
