Darien Kicks Off Summer Concert Series

The city hosted a local band at the Carriage Greens Country Club on Thursday night.

DARIEN, IL — The City of Darien kicked off its "Darien Rocks the Greens" concert series on Thursday night in the Carriage Green Country Club.

Around 300 people attended to watch local band Focal Point perform covers of classic rock songs for two hours starting at 6:30 p.m.

The lead vocalist of Focal Point, Mike Olivera, said the band had a great time performing. He noted the crowd was amazing and the environment was beautiful.

City Administrator Bryon Vana said the concert was a huge success.

“The weather was perfect, and it was fun to watch the band with the beautiful golf course and sunset behind the stage,” Vana told Patch in an email.

Vana said the country club offered a variety of food and drinks, while the city provided Zazzo’s Pizza . An ice cream truck was on site from Nick’s Happy Ice Cream. Vana said it may have been the "biggest hit."

Vana also noted that concertgoers were very generous in bringing canned goods donations for the food drive that took place at the concert. All donations will be for the Our Lady of the Mount Carmel Food Pantry.

City officials anticipate minor logistic changes for the next concert, but have yet to identify them. The city will also solicit community feedback on the concert in their Direct Connect e-newsletter.

The next “Darien Rocks The Greens” concert will be July 28. It will feature local band The Mix, starting at 6 p.m.
