DARIEN, IL – A Hinsdale High School District 86 board member said this week he wants to talk publicly with his colleagues about improving media relations.

"I hate seeing articles going without a response from the district," member Baron Leacock said at Tuesday's board meeting. "I think we should be really endeavoring to communicate the best we can."

Elected in April, Leacock said the district should ensure the public is getting the best information. He said he wanted the board to talk about a strategy to do that.

Board President Catherine Greenspon said the board could discuss the issue in September, October or November.

Leacock said he understood the board has a full plate, but "we are a pretty amazing district and districts of our caliber should be on top of this."

Two news outlets – Patch and the Hinsdalean weekly newspaper – regularly cover the district.

The district, which has a full-time communications director, often does not return Patch's messages, particularly about controversies. This has become more frequent over the last year.
