DARIEN, IL – The adage that "history repeats itself" may apply to pools in Hinsdale High School District 86.

On Thursday, Hinsdale South High School announced in a newsletter that its pool construction project has been delayed and will extend into next school year.

Last year, a project delayed the opening of Hinsdale Central's pool by two months, upsetting swim team parents.

In its newsletter, South said it is addressing the impact on activities and that it would share more details soon.

On its frequently asked questions page, the school revealed Wednesday that a concrete pour a week earlier did not meet the design specifications.

"We will update the schedule once the overlay pour is complete," the school said. "The project will run into the start of the school year."

As part of the 2019 referendum, new pools were completed for Central in 2021 and South in 2022. Both later experienced tile problems.

At South, deck tiles cracked, though the problem was not nearly as bad as at Central, the district reported a couple of years ago.

In mid-April, South closed the pool to start the project. At the time, the school said it would be done by Aug. 8.
