South Teacher Lets Students Manage $50K Of His Money
The teacher received a top award from a countywide group. So did another South employee.

HINSDALE, IL – A Hinsdale South High School teacher has received the Teacher of the Year award from the DuPage Regional Office of Education.
Social studies teacher Jeff Waterman was recognized for integrating his background in banking with real-world instruction in economics, world studies and humanities, according to a Regional Office of Education news release.
His commitment to learning is evident in his leadership of the Investment Club, where students managed $50,000 of Waterman's money, consistently generating profits, the release said.

He also coached the Economics Team, leading members to two state championships. Additionally, he has chaperoned students on multiple international learning experiences.
Also honored was Karly Bartolucci, a Hinsdale South speech pathologist, who received the Educational Support Person of the Year award. She was noted for her inclusive approach to student engagement, leadership in culturally responsive practices, and commitment to social-emotional and trauma-informed education, according to the news release.

"Her exceptional communication skills are reflected in the clarity and precision of her speech and language reports, as well as her ability to convey complex information to teams, families, and students in a relatable way," the news release said.
Other honorees included two Hinsdale High School District 86 teacher's aides, officially known as paraprofessionals. They were Central multilingual paraprofessional Lana Radi and South special education paraprofessional Kevin Maloney.
